Enffue is a brand owned by Carotino Sdn Bhd, a vertically integrated Malaysian palm oil company that produces biodiesel. On the surface that doesn’t mean much to Australians but when you dig a little deeper you realise SAFF is most likely going to be rebranded to Enffue.

HSR Seeds have developed a breed of sorghum specifically for ethanol production that contains a high grains starch percentage. The breed is called Tiger and HSR Seeds are talking up it potential despite the fact that limited stocks of the seed are available this year.

The results from a study by an international collaboration between New Zealand’s Scion and AgResearch research instituets, Carter Holt Harvey and Verenium Corporation have found that there are no significant technical or supply barriers to producing ethanol from New Zealand’s softwood feedstocks, despite previous concerns that it was technically too difficult and too expensive.

A reader has just informed me that E85 is available in the Shoalhaven and Illawarra regions of NSW. This is not really surprising since the Manildra ethanol plant is nearby. What is surprising is that E85 is selling for just under $1 per litre.

Syntec Biofuel Inc., the Canadian company developing biomass to fuel conversion technologies, has announced that it has achieved a yield of 105 gallons of alcohol (ethanol, methanol, n- butanol and n-propanol) per ton of biomass. This is not far short of their target is 113 US gallons per ton of biomass.

Agri Energy, the biofuels company that backed away from developing ethanol plants in Victoria and New South Wales in October 2007, has requested suspension of trading on the Australian Stock Exchange.

On 07 Feb 08 the Victorian Parliament’s Economic Development and Infrastructure Committee tabled its final report on the Inquiry into Mandatory Ethanol and Biofuels Targets in Victoria. The key recommendation of the Committee is that the Victorian Government not introduce a
mandatory target for biofuels use at this time.

As part of a $60 million upgrade to their Bombala softwood processing facility Willmott Forests have indicated they will be exploring the possibility of using plantation waste to produce biofuel.

Agri Energy have just released their quarterly report for Q4 2007. In the front of that report is a set of tables that shows very clearly why ethanol production is losing momentum in the US and tallow based biodiesel production in Australia has slowed to a standstill.

O2Diesel Corporation has received approval from the government of Paraguay to market and distribute its O2Diesel™ fuel technology in the country. O2Diesel Corporation are anticipating commercial scale expansion after the initial test is completed followed by widespread regional use by the end of 2008.
