O2Diesel Corporation has received approval from the government of Paraguay to market and distribute its O2Diesel™ fuel technology in the country. O2Diesel Corporation are anticipating commercial scale expansion after the initial test is completed followed by widespread regional use by the end of 2008.

The Adelaide City Council’s new electric bus is to be recharged using 100% solar energy. The Tindo, the Kaurna Aboriginal name for sun, will be used everyday on the Adelaide City Council’s free Adelaide Connector Bus service.

Daimler Buses North America has received orders for 1,052 Orion VII Next Generation diesel-electric hybrid transit buses from two of North America’s largest transit authorities.MTA New York City Transit and the City of Ottawa (OC Transpo) have both ordered large numbers of the BAE Systems’ HybriDrive® diesel-electric hybrid propulsion powered buses for delivery into 2010.

The Michelin Challenge Bibendum is a sustainable mobility test and evaluation event conducted in the form of a rally program. Categories under test include acceleration, maneuverability, local pollution, noise, fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions. This year’s event was held in Shanghai where an interesting array of vehicles running on a variety of fuels fought for the honours.

Brisbane Lord Mayor Campbell Newman has announced that Neumann Petroleum is supplying biodiesel to Brisbane City Council buses as part of a four-month trial. Councillor Newman says the trial will see diesel fuel replaced with Neumann Petroleum’s B20 blend.

Scania has become one of the few truck and bus manufacturers to completely embrace biodiesel. Scania operators are no longer restricted to either B5 or B100, and can now use any blend of biodiesel.

Brisbane Lord Mayor, Campbell Newman, has told the ABC that a B20 fuel blend will be trialled on 25 buses at the Virginia depot.

Scania has joined forces with Neste Oil in Finland to test Neste’s new low-emission biobased diesel fuel. The new fuel from Neste, called NExBTL, is said to reduce NOx emissions by 20%, particulates by 30% and CO2 by 80%.
